Year of the Horse
“Happy New Year” in Chinese – “Kung Hei Fat Choi.”
The current Greenshoots children were born in the Year of the Ox, Tiger or Rabbit. We enjoyed looking at the Chinese calendar and finding out which animal year we were born in.
After exploring Chinese New Year playdough mats we all played a Chinese New Year animal matching game. Then we drew and coloured Chinese New Year pictures and sent special red cards home to our families. The class also enjoyed making Year of the Horse masks.
There are many special stories about the Chinese New Year, we read one called ‘Dragon Dance’. We learnt a rhyme about a dragon which you see at Chinese New Year and the ‘Horsey Horsey Don’t You Stop’ song for the Year of the Horse.
It was fun tasting Chinese noodles and practising how to eat with chopsticks. Both were quite hard to do but some of the children showed great skill!
