Welcome
Welcome back to Greenshoots. We hope you all had a lovely Christmas and Happy New Year to you all. We would like to welcome our new children and families to the setting. We are sure your children will have a lovely experience with us at Greenshoots.
Over the next few weeks the children will be learning about the winter season. We will be learning about arctic animals and where they live etc. We have also purchased some new light projectors that will project stars around the room. With our new blinds we can make it a nice sensory experience for the children.
We would like to thank all of those who came along to support the pre-school’s Christmas event on Wednesday 12th December. We greatly appreciate all of the contributions you made and we raised over £160.00 for the pre-school, so we will use these funds to develop the setting and buy new resources for the children. As a charity run pre-school, all contributions help – so a big thank you from everyone at Greenshoots.
Staffing and Students
Laura joined the staff team a few weeks before Christmas. She has settled in well and is a key person. Natalie, Ellie, Sammie and Abbie continue to be key people so if your child is new to the setting they will be allocated to one of these members of staff. An initial meeting will be arranged for you to meet with your child’s key person, which will enable us to find out more about your child.
Jodie from Discovery College will continue to do her placement with us on a Wednesday and Thursday. She is completing her level 3.
Callum is also from Discovery College and is hoping to start his placement with us this month. He is completing his level 2.
Tapestry
For those of you who are new to the setting, your Tapestry account will be set up this week. Please check your email so that you can set up your account. Tapestry is where you will find your child’s learning journey of photos and observations. You are also able to send photos to us on the learning journey so that we can see what your child likes to do at home. If you are having any problems accessing your child’s Tapestry learning journal then please speak to Natalie or Kerry who can try to sort this out for you.
What to bring
For outdoor play we would appreciate it if you could provide your child with the following:
*Warm clothing
*Waterproof clothing
*Wellies
*Hat, gloves, scarf
*Spare clothes
Website
The Greenshoots’ website is currently under maintenance and is getting a new look. It continues to keep you updated on events, not only at the pre-school but also events within the city. Our Facebook page also keeps you updated on what we are doing at Greenshoots. We will let you know when our new website is completed but you can access it any time at: www.lairagreenshoots.com. In addition to updating the website, we have a new Instagram and Twitter page. Follow us at ‘greenshootspreschool’ on Instagram and @GreenshootsPlym on Twitter.
One event we would like to make you aware of is being run by the ‘Plymouth Parent Carer Voice.’ The organisers are holding different workshops for parents / carers who have children with additional needs. The event is being held on the 28th January at the Plymouth Guildhall. More information can be found on our website and Facebook page.
NoodleNow!
Greenshoots has signed up to a new online training package for the team called NoodleNow! The idea of this is so that staff have unlimited access to the courses and will keep their continued professional development high. The information and skills learnt from the courses can be implemented within the setting, which will support the learning and development of your children. The courses are OFSTED recognised. Staff will continue to attend training that is provided by the Plymouth Early Year’s Service.
Becoming a Trustee
The Laira Green Trust, who is responsible for the running of the pre-school, recently held their AGM. The Trust would greatly benefit from having more members to support their work, so if you are interested in joining the board or know someone who might be, please let us know and we can provide you with some more information about this. The trustees are volunteers who are passionate about what we do here at Greenshoots and we would not be able to operate the pre-school without their involvement and dedication.
Thank you all for your continued support.
